Web Hosting Optimization

Hosting – Is it time to Switch?

What to Test?

Time to First Byte (TTFB) : Simply put, is a measurement of how long the browser has to wait before receiving its first byte of data from the hosting server. The longer it takes to get that data, the longer it takes to display your page.

A high TTFB is a direct indication of how well or poorly your Hosting is performing. For instance, no matter what I did, I couldn’t get my TTFB from WP Engine to decrease any lower. It was hovering right around 650ms. Yes, that’s blazing fast to some, especially you Bluehost’ers that typically have a TTFB of 800ms to over 1s… but I am an Optimization addict and knew it could get better. So I performance tested the most popular Hosts amongst bloggers to come up with the Fastest WordPress Hosting for 2021.

Skipping to the results, as you can see NameHero was the winner. NameHero loads my optimized website on average 275ms. That’s less than 1/3 of a Second! By switching my hosting, I shaved off 58% from my TTFB!

Analyze your TTFB Results from your 3 Speed tests in How to Test Page Speed. Over 500ms? I mean wayyy over? It’s time to transfer to a new host! Adding in a properly configured CDN & Caching plugin helps to lower TTFB, but it won’t work miracles, you need the solid foundation of fast hosting.
